Hi!If you got here you've been probably redirected by my Julia Renderer page here! And if you clicked the link to know more I belive you want to learn something about Julia Sets. This is not intended to be a complete (or even half-complete) explanation. But I just wanted to make sure everyone can understand what is happening in my application and what is appearing on his screen. So let't start!
Fractal are structures with an auto-similarity property. What does it mean? Do you remember when at school your math teacher was speaking about two similar triangles? I'm sure you know perfectly that two triangles are similar when, not mathematically speaking, they have the same shape. In a sense, you can think about one of them as a zoom of the other. Well, generally speaking beeing similar is something like that. If you have two shapes and you want to understand if they're similar, you could get one of them zoom it, rotate it, translate it... If dooing so you manage to overlay perfectly one shape on the other then they were similar. Now it's easy to understand what autosimilarity is: the obkect is composed of smaller objects everyone similar to the other. Even if that property seems quite unusual, it's surprisingly diffused in nature. You can think about Romanesco broccoli.
You see? It's composed by many repetition of the same cone-like shape, which compose something like the same shape just in a bigger scale. An objects that behaves like these broccoli is considered a fractal
